LEFT: For a nautical beach inspired place setting, use rope to tie your napkin, branches, coral or a sand dollar for interest, and here we added a red lobster “crawling” up the plate. As we have mentioned before, always layer and add contrast by using different textures such as hammered metals (shown below), gloss and matte finishes.

Instead of the traditional cutting of a design into your pumpkin with a knife, use a drill to create a chic and modern design on your pumpkins! Simply draw your “dot design” on your pumpkin first in marker, then take an electric drill and drill holes over your dots. Insert a candle inside the cleaned out pumpkin. Another Tip: Add your child’s name, family name, or ghoulish Halloween saying!

Add character and interest to your place settings by changing them up each season. It will give you and your family a change of pace and add a fresh look for the new season. The example below uses stacked nests, a bird, and grasshopper to add that “Springtime” feel. Always remember when designing place settings to contrast textures to add interest and use harmonizing colors. Below, a feathered place mat is used, topped with a metallic green dinner plate, with hand painted striped salad and dessert plates, and a green ornate bowl as the top piece.

When your beautiful flowered urns are done blooming, don’t store your urns away! Urns are a great way to decorate at your front door for the different seasons. Below is an example of a Fall Urn that is perfect to get you and your family in the mood for autumn. Used here are stacked plastic pumpkins in large, medium and small, with the largest pumpkin on the botttom. To hold the pumpkins together use hot glue and dowel rods. We suggest removing the stem of the center two pumpkins to help the pumpkins to sit flat and stack. Then, use a gorgeous fall leaves & berries garland to wrap the pumpkins and add texture. Another tip: At Halloween add in a ghost, witch or cut the pumpkins into Jack-O-Lanterns!
